Arm Sling
An arm sling holds the forearm in a raised or horizontal position and can support an injured upper arm, forearm, and wrist. The sling is also a helpful visual warning to others that someone is injured. The sling helps keep your arm after injury or surgery on the arm, shoulder, or collarbone. Some people only need it for a short period, while others will wear a sling for many weeks. Wearing a shoulder sling can be challenging regardless of how you end up with it. If you had surgery, you would likely wear the splint until your follow-up appointment. You will gradually decrease your sling use. As you heal from an injury or surgery, you may only need it while awake, at night, or for comfort. While wearing your sling, move your fingers and wrist several times daily to prevent stiffness.
